Salem's Roy becomes national judo champion

Peter Roy of Salem became a National Champion at the USJA Junior National Judo Championships at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston.

Peter, 10, was undefeated during the championships, taking first place in the Boys Intermediate 28 kg division. He won all four of his fights, remaining in the winner's bracket for the duration of the tournament. Hundreds of competitors from across the United States and Canada participated in the two-day event.

A student at Pedro's Judo Center in Wakefield (which hosted the tournament in Boston), Peter defeated Dylan Skelley of Upper Saddle River, N.J. in the championship match.

A fifth grader at the Cape Ann Waldorf School in Beverly Farms, Peter is the son of Alan and Eugenie Roy.
