Standouts in both the classroom and their respective athletic endeavors, Masconomet Regional wrestler Nate Hooper and Swampscott High's three-season distance running ace Lindsay Walsh have been named the Moynihan Lumber Student-Athletes of the Month for December.
Taking to the mats this winter as a junior captain, Nate's goal is to advance to the New England Tournament after a sophomore season in which he finished sixth at the Division 2 state tournament and recorded 38 wins with over 30 pins.
Nate also stands out in the classroom, where he is ranked 18th in a class of 375 while carrying a 4.83 grade-point average. He's also a member of the National Honor Society.
Lindsay is arguably the Northeastern Conference's top female distance runner, having been named league MVP for cross country in 2007 and 2008 as well as in winter track last season. She's a six-time Salem News all-star and was the Division 4 state champion in the 2-mile last spring. She went on to finish fifth at the New England Championships. Lindsay's running exploits are equaled only by her prowess in academics. She's ranked fourth in her senior class while earning a gold medal on the National Spanish Exam. Walsh also serves on the student council, the leadership conference and is a peer counselor at Swampscott High.
