Thursday's area roundup: Ipswich baseball walks off with a win in 12 innings


Swampscott 121, Saugus 15: Haley Irwin won both the long jump and the triple jump and Melinda Wilson tripled in the shot put, discus and low hurdles as the Big Blue prevailed. Shauna King also won a pair of events, taking the 400 and the javelin. Other event winners were Tess Gorman (2-mile), Tiara Smith-Matthews (100), Sarah Kelley (mile) and Vy Le (high hurdles).

Masconomet 104, Triton 41: Sophomore Laura Drohosky had wins in the high jump and 400 as the Chieftains stay perfect at 5-0. Both relay teams also had first place finishes.


Endicott 8, Salem State 1: The Gulls wrapped up the season 18-3 heading into next month’s NCAA Division 3 tournament. Natalie Egbert/Suzie Newman, Emilie Cloutier/Amy Heacox and Brittany Potter/Savannah Deady teams to sweep doubles for the Gulls. All four doubles player also won singles matches, as did Sarah Hill.


Endicott 6, Westfield State 5: Brett Holmgren knocked in the go-ahead run in the seventh and Endicott’s bullpen of Conor McLaughlin and Kevin Dupras held the Owls off the board the rest of the way. Harry Oringer drove in a pair of runs for Endicott (24-11) and Conor Ressel had two hits, one RBI and one run scored. Endicott used nine different pitchers and won their fifth straight and tenth of their last 11.


Salem State splits: The Lady Vikings (19-13) beat UMass Boston 6-2 but were blanked in the nightcap of a double dip, 4-0. Stephanie Schieni went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in the win, Lauren Garchinsky drove in a pair of runs and Brittney Howe scattered six hits and went the distance to earn the win on the mound.
