Tuesday's area roundup: Defense, timely scoring keep Salem girls lacrosse unbeaten in NEC

Amesbury 5, Masconomet 3: The Chieftains missed scoring opportunities in the first three innings and had the bases loaded with one out in the seventh but couldn’t push any more runs in. Speros Varinos had two hits, scored a run and stole a base for the Chieftains (5-4), who have dropped three of their last four games.

Hamilton-Wenham 6, Rockport 2: Jack Clay allowed only one hit over six innings with three strikeouts and no earned runs to get the win for the Generals (3-5, 3-4 CAL). Austin Michel pitched one inning to get the save. Brett Harring went 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI and Ben MacDonald added two hits and two RBI.

Bishop Fenwick 107, Marian 29: Triple-winner Charlie Maistrellis claimed the long jump, 100 and 400 as Fenwick rolled to 5-0 on the season. Andrew Carlin added wins in the javelin and high jump while Ben Maxner won the 400 hurdles, Bryan Mendes won the mile and Dan Deschenes took the 200.

Revere 92, Beverly 40: Winning events for the Panthers were Alex Greco (800, 2:00.4), Dylan Perry (mile, 4:47), Campbell Wood (2-mile, 11:04), Michael Black (400, 53.4) and Matt Heckman (long jump, 19-5 1/2).

Gloucester 71, Swampscott 65: The Fishermen won the 4x400 relay to take the meet. Event winners for the Big Blue (2-3) were Matt Mahoney (2-mile, 9:47), Zach Blonder (100, 11.2), Maleek Newsome (200, 23.4), Colman Donovan (high jump, 5-8) and Rob Seymour (shot put, 48-8).

St. John’s Prep 108, Malden Catholic 23: David Roy won the shot put (51-5) and discus (144-7) and Josh Nickerson added wins in the triple jump (39-1) and 110 high hurdles (17.2) as St. John’s improved to 2-3. Andrew Zucco (400, 52.6) and Josh Hubbell (200, 23.0) also had impressive wins for the Eagles, who won 12 events.

Bishop Fenwick 107, Marian 23: Colleen Corcoran doubled in the high jump and the 200 as the Crusaders remained perfect at 5-0. Carolyn Claveau won the discus and was second in the high jump, Rose Fantozzi added a win in the long jump and was second in the 200 and Kylie Homem won the high hurdles and was second in the low hurdles. Becky Woodcock took the triple jump for Bishop Fenwick.
