Wednesday's area roundup: Maistrellis has solid day for Bishop Fenwick

BOYS TRACK

Bishop Fenwick’s Charlie Maistrellis was busy last night in the boys track Division 5 state meet. Busy and productive.

Maistrellis re-broke his own school record and set a new meet record in the 300, winning in 36.51. He also ran the anchor leg of the third place 4x400 team that finished in 3:37.85. To top it off, he finished seventh in the 55 meter dash in 6.80.

Maistrellis was joined by Eric Razney, Nick Tambini and Mitch Rivers on the third-place 4x400 relay team.

Ipswich Boys Finish 10: Alex Jean-Charles placed third in the long jump (20-3) and sixth in the dash (6.791) for Ipswich, which took 10 place at the Division 5 State Meet. Ryan Bahar came in seventh in the hurdles (8.35) and Michael Riddle was fourth in the two mile (10:04).

GIRLS TRACK

Ipswich Places Seventh: The Tigers finished seventh overall in the Division 5 State Meet behind some big time performances. Emily DeMarco was second in the 1000 (3:05.57), Michaela Hedderman was third in the 300 and the 4X400 team of Nora McMorrow, Hedderman, Sydney Law and Chloe Lindahl took sixth overall (4:19). Laura McCormack was eighth in the shot put (30-7), McMorrow was seventh in the long jump (15-3) and Jill Calvani was eighth in the 600 (1:42.26) as well for Ipswich.

Fenwick places two: Arianna Maida took fourth in the mile in 5:20.22 for Bishop Fenwick and sophomore Meredith Harrington was eighth in the high jump with a leap of 5-0.

BOYS HOCKEY

Beverly 4, Mansfield 0: In one of its best victories of the season, the unbeaten Panthers (17-0-1) beat their fifth Division 1 team in as many tries this season while pitching their sixth shutout of the season.

Junior Tim Birarelli had a dozen saves for his fifth shutout and lowered his goals-against average to 1.28. Jake Straw (his 8th goal), Ryan Santo (his 5th) and Jesse MacLaughlin (his 6th) all scored and added an assist while junior Teddy Leathersich added his fifth goal of the season. Kevin Lally and Connor Irving also had assists, while junior defenseman Nick Albano also had one of his top performances of the winter.
