Rose (14 points) went 4-for-4 from downtown and controlled the Hamilton-Wenham offense nicely.
“She’s steady with the ball and makes good decisions,” DeMarco said of Rose. “A big difference from the first game is we made better decisions ... and it starts with her.”
Free throw shooting helped H-W build the lead. The Generals were a perfect 8-of-8 from the line in the first half, led by sophomore Molly Eagar (6-for-6).
“Foul shooting is always important,” said Rose. “The young players especially have done well adjusting to the tournament style and (Eagar’s free throws) was a good example.”
Going forward, Hamilton-Wenham may be without junior Julia Fibbe, who went down with a knee injury in the second quarter and returned to the bench after halftime on crutches. Fibbe found her inside game in the postseason and had eight points against the Middies before her injury.
Without her, senior captains Katherine Ecker (10 points Saturday) and Sam Charette (6) will need to continue to be reliable options down low.
“Julia has been terrific the last couple of games. We hope to get her back,” said DeMarco. “If not, I’m confident others will step up.”
