Kick Saves: Net changes are afoot for girls hockey this winter

The smaller size of the league has allowed teams to beef up their non-league slates, something Beverly and Masco in particular are very excited about.

“We’ve been able to schedule some very strong non-league opponents and that’s a testament to the girls and how far our program’s come in a short time,” said Twomey, who’s Chieftains play Austin Prep in a marquee test Dec. 30. “These are the kinds of programs that don’t schedule games for easy wins. It’s important to have those competitive games.”

Kick Saves, a column on North Shore girls hockey, appears in The Salem News every other Thursday during the winter sports season. Contact assistant sports editor Matt Williams at 978-338-2669, and follow him on Twitter @MattWilliams_SN.
