MASCONOMET 4, NEWBURYPORT 2: Steve Pease scored two goals as Masconomet went on the road and bested the Division 1 Clippers for their first victory of the young season. Joe Griffin added a power play goal, Jared Brann’s tally proved to be the game-winner, and Tyler Costello, Jake Esposito, Nick Aleckna and Mike Castro all had assists. Mitch Nekorowski made 13 saves for Masconomet (1-0-1).
BEVERLY 7, GLOUCESTER 1: Captain Connor Irving bagged a hat trick and contributed one assist as the Panthers (3-0) rolled on the road. Junior goaltender Tim Birarelli stopped all 12 shots he faced in his two periods of work while Ted Leathersich, J.J. Bachini and Jesse McLaughlin all finished with one goal and one assist. Kevin Lally also lit the lamp and defenseman Nick Albano dished out a season-high four assists. Captain Matt Hamor, who also had an assist, was stellar defensively in the win.
Winthrop 4, Peabody 1: Captain Derek DeMild had the lone goal, an unassisted tally on the power play, as the Tanners (0-2) fell in their home opener. Freddy Robitaille came in relief for the second straight game in goal and stopped 16 of 18 shots over two periods.
Lynn 7, Salem 1: Scott Jalbert scored on assists from Danny Heck and Derek Zwerican, but Salem dropped to 0-2 after the road setback. Defenseman Mike Rosengren was in goal for the injured Brett Harring for the second straight game and the senior made 30 saves.
Revere 5, Swampscott 0: The Big Blue lost their season opener on the road after surrendering three first period goals and failing to catch up from there. Junior Trent Gallagher stopped 20 shots in the setback.
Masconomet 2, Peabody 0: Jensena Moner and Maddy Werner each had a goal and an assist as the Chieftains (1-0) won a hard fought contest over the Tanners (1-2). Molly Kelley made eight saves to earn her first varsity shutout for Masconomet and Dana Valletti had one assist.
