Bishop Fenwick 51, Austin Prep 28: Colleen Corcoran recorded her third straight double-double of the season after dropping in 12 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Lexi Rose also added 12 points, while Gianna Pizzano finished with 10 points and four assists, Kate Lipka scored seven points and added six rebounds, four steal and three blocks in the victory. Sydney Brennan also recorded eight points as the Crusaders (2-1) are back in action tonight against Notre Dame.
MASCONOMET 2, DANVERS 1: Right wing Joe Emma’s goal with a little over 10 minutes to play snapped a 1-1 and kept host Masconomet (2-0-1) unbeaten. Fellow third liner Vitaly Knowles also scored for the winners while Joe Griffin, Mike Castro and Knowles all had assists. Mitch Nekorowski stopped 15 of 16 shots for the win.
Danvers (1-3) took an early 1-0 lead when Trevor Daly scored nine-and-a-half minutes into the game, with Sean Lundergan assisting. Alex Taylor made 21 saves for the Falcons, who also blocked eight shots as a team.
ST. JOHN’S PREP 2, HINGHAM 1: Junior Tyler Scearbo’s goal off a scrum with 2:12 to play was the game-winner as the Eagles (2-0) withstood a long bus ride and a hostile atmosphere to earn the two points. Jon Parece and Seth Murray assisted on the go-ahead tally for the Eagles while freshman Zach Laramie, in his first varsity start, stopped 17 shots for the win. Sophomore Kyle Lynch’s second goal of the year, on a feed from captain Jimmy Currier, had given St. John’s a 1-0 lead in the second period before the Harbormen tied it six minutes into the final frame.
XAVERIAN 4, BISHOP FENWICK 1: Sophomore netminder Bobby Lombardi stopped 36 shots, but Fenwick couldn’t match Xaverian offensively in dropping its home opener. Captain Nick Finan scored for the second time in as many games for the Crusaders (0-2), with fellow captain Brian Corcoran and junior Tim Sullivan picking up assists.
GLOUCESTER 5, PEABODY 2: The Tanners led twice — 1-0 on captain Derek DeMild’s first period strike, and 2-1 in the second period on a shorthanded marker from Bobby Caproni — but the host Fishermen scored the game’s final four goals to prevail. Peabody, now 0-3, managed just four third period shots (despite outshooting Gloucester, 29-24). Mike Vadala, another team captain, assisted on DeMild’s goal.
WINTHROP 5, MARBLEHEAD 3: Liam Gillis, Colin Daly and Matt Koopman all scored in Saturday’s loss. Netminder Myles Barry made 16 stops, but two late goals by Winthrop did Marblehead in. Tom Koopman, Trevor Gelineau, Matt Koopman and Gillis also recorded assists in the loss.
Marblehead 6, Shawsheen 1: Brittany Smith and Emma Brophy each had two goals and an assist during Saturday’s win. Sabrina Doughman and Caroline Hughes (assist) also added to the scoring. Marblehead goalie Aly Hopkins turned away 12 shots.
ST. JOHN’S PREP 76, CHARLESTOWN 55: The Eagles (2-0) pulled away from the visiting Townies over the last quarter-and-a-half by clamping down defensively and owning the boards Saturday night at home. Ben Judson led the way offensively with 20 points, with 15 of those coming in the first half. Point guard Kareem Davis added 17 points by scoring off the dribble while also opening things up for his teammates with six assists. Mike Bisson (10 rebounds) and Jake Burt (8 rebounds) each added nine points for the winners while Sean Lovett was hailed by head coach John Dullea for his outstanding work defensively.
St. John’s Prep sweep quad-meet: The Eagles improve to 6-1 on the season after sweeping Franklin (46-18), Salem, (70-6) and Lawrence (54-10) at the Lawrence Quad-Meet over the weekend. Malcolm Mitchell (106), Hunter Costa (126), Jack Anderson (138), Jared Costa (145), Fred Colberg (152), Ben DiNatale (160), Solomon White (170), Ian Butterbrodt (220) and Jay Carnevale (285) all recorded three wins for the Prep.
