Melrose 3, Danvers 2: Jay Calcagno scored the tying goal in the third period, but Melrose netted a power play goal with three seconds left in the game to upend the Falcons (2-4). Steve Ganley’s first period goal gave Danvers a brief lead, while Ty Dustin and Ryan Cassidy earned assists and Alex Taylor turned away 24 shots in goal.
Lynn 6, Swampscott 1: The Big Blue dipped to 1-2-1 in the first round of the Lynn Christmas Tournament.
Beverly 6, Triton 2: Jake Straw scored a pair of goals to put the undefeated Panthers (6-0) in the final of the Cape Ann Savings Bank Tournament tonight against Marblehead. J.J. Bacchini, Clinton Cabral, Ryan Santo and Matt Hamor also ripped the twine for Beverly.
Bishop Fenwick 3, Saugus 0: Nick Finan and Brian Corcoran had a goal and an assist each and sophomore Bobby Lombardi earned his first shutout as the Crusaders (1-3) grabbed their first win of 2013-14. Brian Bassett added an empty netter for Fenwick and Tim Sullivan had one assist.
Salem 11, O’Bryant 1: Danny Heck broke out for a hat trick and junior Tarick Shaheen also scored three goals as the Witches (1-3-1) grabbed their first win in the Deep Freeze tourney. Jackson Jennings also scored twice and Mike Rosengren earned his first varsity win between the pipes. Coach Ted Hanley was pleased with Salem’s all-aroound play, especially the effort from the third and fourth lines.
Bishop Fenick 0, St. Jospeh Prep 0: St. Joe’s defeated Bishop Fenwick 5-0 earlier this season but the Crusaders rallied yesterday in the Judy Kostas Tournament consolation game for an impressive performance. Fenwick earned the first point in the program’s three year existence. The Crusaders’ (0-1-3) sophomore Meghan Woodworth made 41 saves in a monster effort while junior center Nicole Muir, senior captain Nina Groom (Swampscott), Gabby Dotolo, Meaghan Carney and junior captain Maggie Clark had strong performances in the tie.
