Monday's area sports roundup: Pingree boys hoop captures prestigious Old Spice Classic championship


Bedford 4, Swampscott 2: Junior goaltender Trent Gallagher made 23 saves and freshmen Ryan Donnelly and Mike Johnson both had goals, but host Bedford snapped a tie with two third period goals. Ryan Cresta and Louis Olivieri had assists for the Big Blue (1-4-1) in the setback.


Bishop Fenwick 80, Archbishop Williams 6: Eric Razney and Charlie Maistrellis each won two events as Fenwick (2-1) rolled to an easy victory. Razney captured both the 55 dash and 300, while Maistrellis was victorious in the 600 and long jump. Other wins for the Crusaders came from Sean Cray (1,000), Eric Loehle (2-mile), Kevin Hannon (high jump), Charlie St. Pierre (shot put), Nick Tambini (55 hurdles) and the 4x400 relay team.

Marblehead 51, Danvers 35: Derek Dumais captured first in the shot put (42-9) as Marblehead remains undefeated at 3-0. Ian McIver took first in the 600 (1:35.8), A.J. Ernst won the mile (4:37.2), Conrad Rousseau placed first in the 55 hurdles (8.4) and Adam Linksy won the 2 mile (10:48.5).


Bishop Fenwick 66, Archbishop Williams 19: Annette Ruggerio qualified for states by winning the 55 dash as the Crusaders (2-1) prevailed. Caitlyn Carrott (300), Arianna Maida (600), Sydney Packard (1,000), Sabrina Silvagni (long jump) and sisters Meredith (high jump) and Emma Harrington (shot put) were also winners for Fenwick, as was its 4x4 relay squad.

Marblehead 69, Danvers 17: The Magicians improve to 3-0 on the season after Olivia Vener doubled in the high jump (4-6) and hurdles (9.1). Faith Ferrucci (shot put), Alyssa Nye (55 dash) and Kat Huber (600) also had first place finishes in their respective events.


Beverly’s Wilbur shines at Lowell tourney: Panther senior captain Tom Wilbur (170 pounds) placed eighth at yesterday’s Lowell Holiday Tournament. He was the top finisher for Beverly, which competed against 70 other schools in the tourney.


Salem State 61, Elms 54: Junior Rachael Carter scored 25 points and added nine rebounds, three assists and three steals as the Vikings (5-7) won the consolation game of their own Holiday Tournament at Twohig Gymnasium. Ashley White added eight points, nine rebounds and four steals in the victory while Malissa Saad scored nine points and Peabody’s Ginny Fleming grabbed nine rebounds for SSU.
