Tuesday's area roundup: Hamilton-Wenham boys clinch CAL title

Danvers 69, Winthrop 26: Kieran Beck finished with 16 points, all of which were scored in the first half for the Falcons (12-2). Sophomore Mike Nestor added six points and four rebounds, while freshman Kieran Moriarty (four points) scored his first varsity points and added three rebounds.

St. JOseph’s Prep 60, North Shore Tech/Essex Aggie 57: The Hawks had a couple of shots at the tying bucket that didn’t fall. Trace Schaebe scored 20 points while Yordanny Sanchez had 13 points and grabbed 19 rebounds and Dan Ramirez came up with 11 rebounds.

Swampscott 68, Gloucester 62: The Big Blue earned an impressive road win over Gloucester last night. Joey Ragusa scored nine of 19 points in the fourth quarter and finished with four assists. Chad Nelson earned a double-double with 10 rebounds and 18 points, while Sam Walker came up big off the bench with six rebounds and two points.

GIRLS TRACK

Ipswich wins CAL: The Tigers finished 10-0 in the regular season and clinched their second straight Cape Ann League crown. First place finishers for Ipswich were Michaela Hedderman (300), Jill Calvani (600), Emily DeMarco (1000) and the 4X400 relay team of Calvani, Hedderman, Nora McMorrow and Chloe Lindahl. McMorrow also claimed third in the dash, Laura McCormack was fourth in the shot put, Maria Balder took fifth in the hurdles and Katie Monahan finished sixth in the hurdles.

Generals place third: Hamilton-Wenham finished with 49.3 points and placed third overall behind Ipswich (56 points) and Masconomet (53 points) at the CAL Open. The 4x800 relay team finished first (10:16.96), while Emily Weigand was 2nd in the mile (5:10.52). Janine Zheng placed fourth in the mile (5:33.75), Megan Stone was third in the 2 mile (12:13.35), Emily Horgan placed third in the 1000 meters and Kerry Hull was second in the high jump (5-2).

BOYS TRACK

mASCO WINS cal: The Chieftains took home the CAL championship title (98.5 points) with first place finishes from Harry Kent (2 mile), Austin Cashin (300), David Drigo (shot put), Nolan Rice (high jump), as well as the 4x200 relay team and 4x400 relay team.
