Injury to keep Adams out at Frozen Fenway

The Salem News

---- — The Providence College men’s ice hockey team will play Merrimack in the first outdoor game in program history tomorrow afternoon at Fenway Park in Boston.

Unfortunately, Boxford native Mark Adams, who is a senior defenseman for the Friars, will not be in the lineup due to a lower body injury. The set back is just the latest injury to plague the former Malden Catholic star.

Last season, Adams was a plus-3 with five blocked shots through Providence’s first seven games before being sidelined with a season-ending injury. As a sophomore, he played 19 games before getting injured. His freshman season Adams had three assists in 33 games played.

This year, Adams recorded his first collegiate goal but injuries have limited him to just five games played.

A Dec. 30 poll by USCHO.com had the Friars (13-3-3) ranked fourth nationally in Division 1 Men’s Hockey. Merrimack, which will also be making its first Frozen Fenway appearance in school history, is dead last in Hockey East while Providence is second in the conference next to Boston College.

The Warriors are just 4-9-2 overall including a 1-5-2 conference record. Away from home Merrimack is winless at 0-6-2.
