Weekend area roundup: Prep's Dombrowski wins shot put at Dartmouth Relays

Senior Evan Dombrowski is already one of the best shot putters ever to compete for St. John’s Prep. After this weekend, he’s one of the best in the region as well.

Dombrowski won the shot put at the presitgious Dartmouth Relays over the weekend, placing first with a threw of 57-feet-6 3/4 inches. The heave also broke his own St. John’s indoor record, and was an all-time personal best for the senior from Gloucester including both indoor and outdoor track. It’s also the best throw by an athlete from Massachusetts this winter.

“He’s the best of the group that we’ve had over the last seven or eight years as far as the shot in concerned,” said Eagles coach Ray Carey. “Considering the weather we’ve had, with the cold and the snow, being able to throw that far is a significant accomplishment.”

Also at the Dartmouth Relays, one of the oldest track meets in the USA, junior Joe Luongo finished second in the 400 with a time of 50.83.
