Thursday's area roundup: St. John's volleyball opens postseason with win

Georgetown 19, North Shore Tech/Essex Aggie 1: Senior captains Bryan Jackson and Timothy Andersen each had two hits to cap off their North Shore Tech careers. Both players were named Commonwealth Conference All-Stars this season. North Shore finished 7-13.

Peabody 11, Revere 6: Sophomore Matt Correale struck out seven in four innings to earn his first varsity win. Sean McGrath went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, Christain Morales went 4-for-4 with two runs and three steals and Steve Leavitt went 3-for-4 with two RBI as Peabody (17-4) scored five times in the fifth to take control. Max Gordon went 2-for-3 with two RBI, Maynard Wheeler drove in a pair of runs and Mike Petrosino had one RBI.

Salem 3, North Shore Tech/Essex Aggie 1: Salem leadoff hitter Sam Mento had two hits and two runs and was named the Witches’ Player of the Game in the Chuck Mekolsky Game. Pitcher Kaera Wyse was named Player of the Game for North Shore Tech/Essex Aggie (10-8) after she surrendered just five hits and struck out three.

Kasay Harris had two hits and an RBI and Krystal Dion contributed two hits for the Bulldogs.

Marblehead 4, Masco 2: Junior pitcher Michaela Leblanc earned her 32nd varsity win, which is the most ever by a Marblehead pitcher. Leblanc also went 2-for-3, as did Alexa Brown and Emily Promise. Emily Messinger also tripled for Marblehead (14-6).

Revere 2, Peabody 0: The Tanners lost in a pitcher’s duel. Shelbi Wilson struck out 11, walked six, and allowed three hits in a tough-luck loss. Peabody, now 12-4, did capture the NEC North title with Lynn Classical’s loss yesterday, however.
