It was a rough first game for Salem and new head coach Anthony Nardella as the Witches fell 12-4 to North Andover.
But it wasn’t all doom and gloom as Salem actually led 1-0 and was tied 2-2 at one point against the always tough Scarlet Knights.
“We didn’t do ourselves any favors with some unforced turnovers and mental mistakes,” said Nardella. “We went up 1-0 and it was 2-2 at one point and then it snowballed on us. It was a closer game than the score indicated.”
Peter Slattery and Craig Denehy contributed two goals each for Salem (0-1) while goalie Christian Costa made 12 saves.
Endicott 16, Southern Maine 7: Harry Oringer knocked in five RBI for Endicott (6-2) on a 3 for 5 performance that included a three-run homer in the bottom of the third. Catcher EJ Martinez was 3 for 4 with five RBI as well while pitcher Zac Poland went four innings to get the win.
Suffolk 7, Salem State 5: Matt Burnham allowed a grandslam in the fourth inning and Salem State (7-10) couldn’t rally from the deficit. Brett Cahill was 2 for 5 while Richard Fecteau, Matt Burgess, Ryan Beliveau and Beverly native Ethan Trowt had a RBI each.
