Monday's area roundup: Gillespie scores five but Masco falls in opener


Lincoln-Sudbury 13, Masconomet 7: The Lady Chieftains fell to a Division 1 power from the Dual County League in the season opener. Kathleen Gillespie had five goals while Grace Fahey and Sammi Dindo each scored once. Molly Gillespie had a pair of assists while Becky Stone and Meg Collins played well in the midfield and on defense.

Bishop Fenwick 10, Archbishop Williams 6: Annette Ruggiero led the way four goals in the Crusaders opening game of the season. Caroline Crawford recorded three goals, while Lexie Rose, Colleen Corcoran and Molly Camelo each added a goal in the win. Emily Rocker played excellent on defense and keeper Meghan Woodworth made 16 saves.


Archbishop Williams 14, Bishop Fenwick 8: Nick Finan made 13 saves but the Crusaders (0-1) fell in their first game of the spring at home. Kyle Russell led Fenwick with four goals while Mark Nalesnik scored three and Coleman Hebert had one.

Winchester 9, Beverly 6: Kevin Lally stood out in goal for the Panthers, who started the season off with a loss. Beverly will host Hamilton-Wenham on Friday.
