Salem announces 12-member Hall of Fame Class of 2013

Salem High announced its 2013 Hall of Fame Class yesterday, enshrined 10 individual contributors and one couple as outstanding Witches student-athletes, coaches and for meritorious service.

The new Hall of Famers will be inducted at a ceremony at Knights of Columbus in Sale on June 27.

The inductees are: Cornelius Crean, for whom the track at Bertram Field is named. He coached the Witches track teams from 1952-1961, winning six Essex Country titles, the 1958 state title, and setting a record for consecutive dual meets wins (46) with an overall mark of 168-25-1.

Basketball star Allison Flynn was selected as well. The Class of 2001 standout scored 1,243 career points and was a 3-time Northeastern Conference all-star.

David Steve Hoar was an Essex County League all-star in football, baseball and basketball and played from 1967-1970.

One of the heroes of the 1999 Super Bowl winning football team, Matt Horgan, will also be inducted. The Shriners, Agganis and All-State Super 26 all-star most memorably scored the winning touchdown against Gloucester in the game’s waning moments.

One of Salem’s all-time winningest coaches, Ken Perrson, is going into the Hall of Fame as well. He went 151-62-8 in 21 seasons as Witches football coach while leading the team to two Super Bowl appearances. He was one of The Salem News’ 11 Greatest North Shore Football Coaches of All-Time two summers ago.

Basketball star Janna Ryan (Class of 1998) scored 1,343 points in her career and was also a 3-time NEC all-star. Her coach Dennis Skeadas is joining the Hall of Fame as well. He coached the Witches girls basketball team from 1995-2003, winning four NEC titles and taking his team to the state tournament in each of his seasons.

Football and basketball standout Sean Stellato (Class of 1996) will be inducted as well. He led the football team to an appearance in the 1994 Super Bowl and set numerous records along the way.
