Youth Sports Briefs


The Beverly Girls Softball League has opened registration for the 2012 season. Girls between the ages of 5 and 15 as of Sept. 1 are invited to play. To save time, please register online at If you need to register in person, please do so via the paper form found on the website, or at the BHS skills clinics on March 31. The annual softball clinics at the Beverly High School field house run from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. for ages 5 and 6 (6U), 9:30 to 11 a.m. for ages 7-10 (8U and 10U), and 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. for ages 11 through 15 (12U and 15U). The clinic cost is $20; please arrive early as registration will be at the field house prior to the clinic.


Agawam Youth Hockey will hold tryouts at Pingree School tomorrow for squirts (5:40 to 6:40 p.m. for players born in 2002 or 2003) and Pee Wees (6:50 to 7:50 p.m. for players born in 2000 or 2001) and on March 30 for Mites (4:30 to 5:30 p.m. for players born 2004 and below) and bantams (5:40 to 6:40 p.m. for players both 1998 or 1999). Beverly Little League will hold a scrap metal drive in April. All citizens are free to deposit their unwanted scrap metal in bins at Harry Ball Field. For more information, call 978-815-6385.

The Middleton American Legion Post is sponsoring a Junior Legion team for players ages 14-17 this year. The team will play a 22-game schedule in June and July. There will be an informational meeting on April 1 at 5 p.m. at the Boxford Community Center. Tryouts will take place May 13 and 20 at East Street Field in Middleton. For more information, visit

The Peabody High baseball team will host a youth clinic featuring coach Mark Bettencourt and his players working with young players ages 8-12 at PHS on Sunday, April 1, from 2 to 6 p.m. A $20 donation to benefit the Peabody baseball boosters is requested. The Selkies Synchronize Swim Team from the North Shore YMCA will be putting on a water show on Sunday, April 1, at the YMCA Sterling Center at 4 p.m. The show is a fundraiser for the team and an opportunity for family and friends to see what the sport is all about on a local level.
