Area roundup: Gordon rallies for extra innings win

COLLEGE BASEBALL

The Gordon baseball team fell behind by four runs yesterday at J. Tec White Field, but the Fighting Scots weren't about to wave the white flag.

Jacob Syed scored the winning run when Eric Wolak put the ball in play in the bottom of the tenth and Gordon earned a 6-5 walk-off victory.

Brian Harrington's 3-run homer in the third helped Gordon overcome the early hole. Wolak totaled two RBI and shortstop John Brownell had two hits.

Ben Davidson earned the win on the hill, throwing the final four innings and allowing just three hits and a single run.

Salem St. 9, Salve Regina 5: Kyle McElroy and Nick Conti each drove in a pair of runs and the Vikings (9-3) jumped all over Salve Regina with four runs in the top of the first. Cory Collins pitched into the eighth inning while giving Salem State the quality start and earning the win. Brett Cahill had a hit and drove in a run while Chris Cocci and Steve Buitkus each had two hits.

WOMEN'S COLLEGE LACROSSE

gORDON 21, une 7: Senior Jordan Alexander had a 10-point outburst with four goals and six assists as the Fighting Scots remained perfect at 5-0. Jocie Knaus had four goals and four assists and Anna Bloomberg also had four goals. Jane Dietrich added two goals and three assists for the Scots, who were ahead 15-3 by halftime.

Bates 14, Endicott 6: The Gulls (3-2) fell on the road to the No. 20 team in Division 3, as host Bates exploded for 10 second half goals to break the game open. Holly Davis had two goals plus an assist for Endicott while Callie Murphy had a goal and two helpers.

MEN'S COLLEGE LACROSSE

Salem State 11, St. Joseph's 4: The Vikings (3-4) went ahead 6-0 early and cruised to the finish line. Nate Arminio scored four goals for Salem State while Ipswich native A.J. Robertson had two goals and two assists, as did Danvers product Ryan Gendreau. Corey Davis also scored twice for the Vikes.

MEN'S COLLEGE TENNIS

Wheaton 7, Salem State 2: Krystian Biedul won at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-4, but the Vikings fell to 2-3 on the season with the road loss. Josh Giller and Rob Random teamed to win a doubles match for Salem State.
