Wednesday's area roundup: Prep golfers capture Catholic Conference title


Hamilton-Wenham 2, Saugus 1: Down a goal less than 10 minutes into the contest, the Generals got the tying goal from Caroline Gribbell later in the first half and the game-winner from Audrey Hammerl with about 13 minutes to play. Defender Carolyn Cook and midfielders Maddi Berthoud and Suz Rose were all standouts for Hamilton-Wenham (11-3-3).

Cardinal Spellman 2, Bishop Fenwick 0: Catholic Central League leading Cardinal Spellman scored twice in the second half to hold off Fenwick (9-6-2). Merry Harrington stood out in goal for the Crusaders, stopping 15 shots.

Masconomet 2, North Reading 0: Kaleigh White scored her 26th goal of the season and added her 10th assist of the year to highlight Masco’s victory. Paige Pratt also scored a goal for the Chieftains while Julia O’Reilly chipped in with an assist. Katy Pelletier produced five saves for her fourth shutout of the season.

North Shore Tech/Essex Aggie 1, Whittier 1: Senior Brittany Soper gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead off a feed from Ava Swiniarski with five minutes to go in the first half, but Whittier notched the tying goal in the second half. Sarah Cantwell made seven saves in net for North Shore (9-3-5).

Pingree 8, Newton Country Day 2: Kerri Zerfoss (2 goals, 2 assists), Charlotte Esty and Lexie McNinch each scored two goals and June Kiely and Nicole Scarfo had one each as Pingree remained unbeaten (10-0-1). Taylor Landers, Meg Foye, Molly Smith and Abby Dirks also played well for the Highlanders, who finished 9-0 in Eastern Independent League play.

Waring 3, Cambridge School 0: Amanda Adams, Merilyn Hinrichs and Isabelle Cookson scored the goals as Waring moved to 13-0.

Beverly 9, Revere 0: Caitlin Harty had three goals and one assist and Eva Gourdeau pitched in with three goals as Beverly moved to 13-3-2. Casey Cook (1-2), Kristen O’Connor and Diandra Crowley also scored for the Panthers. Crowley’s goal was the first of her career. Beverly can clinch a share of the Northeastern Conference title with a win over Peabody tomorrow.
