Wednesday's area roundup: Prep golfers capture Catholic Conference title


Masconomet 3, North Reading 1: The Chieftains prevailed 25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 25-13 to improve to 11-6. Kate Barry had 14 service points, three aces, five assists, five digs, and four kills for Masco. Haley Greenslade contributed 14 service aces, 17 digs and four kills, and Katherine McManus pitched in with 16 assists, four digs and two kills.

Newton Country Day 3, Pingree 0: Hanna Stasuik (6 kills, 1 ace) and Haley Sabino (5 assists, 5 digs) played well for the Highlanders, but it wasn’t enough as they lost 25-11, 25-6, 25-12 to slip to 5-9.


Endicott 1, Nichols 0: Lexi Dussi’s unassisted one-timer 21 minutes in gave Endicott (11-5-1) the only goal it would need. Natalie Wyrsch stopped four shots in the shutout win.


Nichols 2, Endicott 1: Despite eight saves from goalie Austin Peluso, the Gulls couldn’t recover from allowing two first half goals and fell to 8-8 on the season.


Salem State 3, Mass. Maritime 0: Sophomore Emily Peay had 13 kills and four digs while classmate Shuly Sejour added 11 kills as the Vikings swept the host Bucs, 25-23, 25-20, 26-24. Senior Mackenzie Carpenter of Peabody ended the night with 36 set assists; fellow senior Nicole Roscoe had seven digs; and sophomores Megan Forrest (11 digs) and Sarah Collins (6 digs) also played well for Salem State (now 5-12 overall, 2-3 MASCAC).
