Arlington 3, Salem 1: The Witches battled the Spy Ponders to a scoreless time for much of the first half, but Arlington broke through for the game’s first goal with just five minutes remaining in the opening stanza.
Arlington added two more goals in the second half to come away with the win in the Division 2 North quarterfinals. Deema Hijleh broke the shutout for Salem in the 76th minute with an assist by Hayley Jellison.
“It was a good effort and a learning experience for a young team,” said Salem coach Fred Day. “Our two senior captains, Alix Bryant and Brenna Burke, have helped build a winning attitude this season, and with just those two graduating the future it very bright.”
Freshman keeper Sydney Rocheville made five saves for Salem, which ends the season 11-8-1. The Witches earned their first state tournament win since 2009 in a successful season.
Westford Academy 4, Masconomet 2: Dana Balek’s first half goal put the Chieftains on top, but Westford Academy scored the next four to hand Masco (19-1-1) its first defeat of the 2013 season in the Division 1 North semi-finals in Reading.

Plymouth State 4, Salem State 2: Goals by freshman Katie Pietrini and sophomore Kathleen Clark helped the Vikings tie the score twice, but the Panthers regained the lead both times to win a Little East quarterfinal match. Carolyn Woodin made five saves for Salem, which ends the season 8-10.

Roger Williams 2, Gordon 1 (OT): The No. 11 ranked Scots fell victim to a goal in the first minute of overtime as they were stunned in the Commonwealth Coast Conference semi’s. Andrew Vandervoort scored his 18th of the season in the second half to put the Scots ahead, 1-0, but RWU leveled two minutes later. Josh Spoonhour made nine stops for Gordon, which at 18-2 will hope for an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.
