PLYMOUTH, N.H. — Local stars Alex Minter of Peabody and defenseman Keaton Cashin of Boxford each had a goal while teammate Brandon Platt scored the game-winner 1:12 into overtime as the Salem State hockey team defeated host Plymouth State, 4-3, last night.
In winning their MASCAC opener, the Vikings (now 2-0 overall) saw a two-goal lead late in the second period disappear within a span of 36 seconds later in the stanza, but ultimately earned the two points as Platt scored his first goal of the season in the extra session. Both Cashin and Kristofer Faric assisted on his tally.
Minter, a speedy forward, scored his first collegiate goal on the power play late in the first period, giving the Vikings a 2-1 lead. He also had two assists, including Cashin’s first goal of the season (and second as a collegian), which gave Salem State a 3-1 lead in the second.
Eric Defelice also tallied for the visitors while Ryan Sutliffe stopped 34 shots in the win.
