Salem 5, Triton 4: Offensively, the Witches were led by Desiree Martin (3-for-3), Hannah Wilkins (2-for-3), Hayley Jellison (2-for-3) and Sandy Pelkowsky who doubled and scored a run. Junior Meaghan Zipper had seven strikeouts on the hill as the Witches start off the season at 1-0.
Beverly 8, Malden 4: Senior Kate Silvestri tallied five RBI on three hits for the Panthers (1-0). Silvestri doubled in the first inning, singled in the fifth inning, and homered in the seventh to score sophomore Caitlyn Munzing, who got her first varsity hit with a double. Sophomore, Ally Cabral drove in two runs while going 1-4. Junior Emily Pitman got the win on the mound giving up six hits and striking out four.
Marblehead 8, Newburyport 1: Senior pitcher Michaela Leblanc went the distance, giving up eight hits, striking out three with no walks and no earned runs. Shortstop Olivia Vener had a three-run homer, Sara Bornstein went 2-for-4 with a double and single and Alexa Brown finished 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Magicians (1-0).
Danvers 14, Lynn English 0: Hannah Llewellyn went 3-for-3 on the day with three RBI. Senior Kendall Meehan finished 3-for-3 with seven RBI and junior catcher Caitlin McBride went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Meehan threw a one-hitter with six strikeouts and one walk.
Rockport 6, Ipswich 5: The Tigers (0-1) lost a heart-breaker despite getting two hits apiece from Chris Grady and Erik Gongas as well as a solid pitching performance from Sean Whooley. Austin Rubino knocked in a pair of runs for the Tigers.
St. John’s Prep 11, Swampscott 1: The Eagles (1-1) earned coach Dan Letarte’s first baseball win as four pitchers combined to issue zero walks. Dan Trully earned the with four innings of 1-hit work while Rich Riley, Justin Foley and Frank Soucy finished. Junior third baseman Ted McNamara went 3-for-3 with a homer and three RBI, junior outfielder Keith Leavitt homered twice and drove in four runs, and Max Burt went 3-for-3 and scored three runs.
