Wednesday's area roundup: Marblehead's Daly tosses no-hitter to open season

Big Blue freshman Gavin Sullivan threw four innings and allowed just three unearned runs, and sophomore Jake Cooper went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

St. John’s Prep 5, Xaverian 0: Senior Evan Roberts spun a 2-hit shuout, fanned five and didn’t walk a batter as the Eagles (2-1) won their Catholic Conference opener. Max Burt had two hits, Rich Riley scored two runs and the Prep batted around and scored three in the third. Burt, catcher Mike Geaslen and second baseman Rosario Missiti played flawless defense.

Arlington Catholic 1, Bishop Fenwick 0: Tom Parsons went the distance for Bishop Fenwick (0-3) giving up just one unearned run on two hits while striking out seven.

Revere 8, Beverly 7: Seniors Matt Hamor and Tristan Fasheh each had two hits as Beverly (0-2) scored four times in the top of the seventh to tie it at 7-7. Host Revere scored in the bottom of the eight to win, however.

Masconomet 5, Pentucket 1: Senior Will Twiss pitched a gem, allowing two hits and one unearned run over six innings to power the Chieftains (2-0) to victory. Elias Varinos hit a three-run double in the second and scored a run for Masco while Joe Klingensmith smashed a solo homer in the fifth inning. Dan Dempsey added two hits, a walk and a run.

Pingree 6, Concord Academy: Sophomore Griffin Beal picked up the win, allowing three hits, one run and struck out seven. Harry Copeland went 3-for-4 with one RBI, Ryan St. Pierre finished 1-for-3 with two RBI and Zach Mitchell was 2-for-3.

Peabody 10, Lynn Classical 1: The Tanners (2-0) scored seven runs in the top of the first sparked by two run singles by Matt Gonick and Ryan Collins and single RBI from David Hoar, Sean McGrath and Bobby Tramandonzzi. Derek Demild earned the win, allowing four hits with five strikeouts and no walks over five inings. Gonick and McGrath each finished with two hits.
