Thursday's area roundup: O'Connor wins four events as Beverly girls track

BASEBALL

Bishop Fenwick 7, Cardinal Spellman 5: Junior hurler Matt Haley picked up the win for the Crusaders (1-3). Haley pitched three innings in relief, struck out five and didn’t give up any runs. Jake Baressi had the game-winning hit in the bottom of the fifth to put Fenwick ahead 6-5. Will Vigneron and Matt Townsend recorded two hits each.

Whittier 5, North Shore Tech/Essex Aggie 0: Jeff White pitched well in defeat, giving up six hits and three earned runs for the Hawks (1-2). Offensively, sophomore Mike Mitchell and White had hits.

Masconomet 15, Triton 6: The Chieftains (3-0) mashed with 10 players hitting safely and seven collecting RBI. Greg Dougherty had four hits, three RBI and three runs, Chris Rich had four hits, two runs and three RBI and catcher Mike Manni drove in five on three hits with three runs. Sam Hamburger scored twice, walked twice and threw two scoreless and Joe Klingensmith earned the win.

Hamilton-Wenham 4, North Reading 0: Austen Michel took a no-hitter into the seventh inning. He threw a complete game with nine strikeouts, one walk and gave up one hit for the Generals (1-0). Sophomore Alex Demers went 2-for-3 on the day, while Jack Clay went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI.

Peabody 8, Lynn English 1: After the Bulldogs scored an unearned run in the third inning, Peabody (3-0) proceeded to score three runs in the top of the fourth, one in the fifth and four more in the seventh and final inning. Ryan Collins was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI; Christian Morales scored twice, stole two bases and had a hit; Kevin Lebel had a two-run single; and Tanner Moquin added a RBI triple. David Apostilides, a senior captain, earned the win by scattering four hits and an unearned run over six innings while four punchouts and no walks.

Georgetown 12, Ipswich 4: Sophomores Alex Morris and Matt Gilligan pitched well in relief for the Tigers (0-2), while senior Austin Rubino cranked a two-run double.
