Monday's area roundup: Fenwick softball takes down Matignon in extra innings

North Shore 9, Northeast 8: Dan McCormick scored the go-ahead goal, his fifth of the game, with two minutes to play and North Shore improved to 2-2. Anthony Santo had two goals and an assist and Ian LeFavour scored twice while the Hawks enjoyed a strong all-around team effort on defense.

Swampscott 10, Salem 6: Goalie Max Cohen made 13 saves to help the Big Blue improve to 4-1. Jason Dignan had three goals and one assist while Griffin Hunt had three goals and two assists and Alex Balleza chipped in two goals and one helper. Joe Silva picked up six groundballs for Swampscott and Jared Dignan scooped up five.

Craig Denehy recorded two goals and an assist for the Witches (3-3), while Peter Slattery scored a pair of goals.

Danvers 10, Gloucester 7: Trevor Chasse had four goals and Troy Fleming added two goals and three assists to help the Falcons hold off Gloucester. Zach Taricone scored his first varsity goal for Danvers (3-1), which also got goals from Stephen Goutzos, Trevor Daly and Matthew Flynn. Jay Calcagno added three assists for the Falcons while James Curley made 14 saves in net. Anthony Scarfo also played well.

Salem Academy 5, Winthrop JV 2: Jake Craven and Kerwin Medrano each scored two goals for Salem Academy (2-2-1).

Archbishop Williams 21, Bishop Fenwick 6: The Crusaders (3-4) had six different goal scorers as Chris Napolitano, Chris Carney. Jake Mitchell, Mark Nalesnik, Sam Mitchell and Dan Hannon all found the back of the net.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Beverly 13, Wakefield 9: The Panthers (3-1) took care of business on the road as Camden Vitale scored five goals. Alicia Cecchini and Grace Otterbein each added two goals and Beverly led 9-3 at halftime.

North Andover 13, Masconomet 8: Kathleen Gillespie netted a hat trick, but it wasn’t enough for the Chieftains (2-2-1). Meghan Collins (two goals), Kaitlyn Waystack (one goal) and Grace Fahey (one goal) also contributed to the scoring. Keeper Kaitlin Dierze made eight saves in the loss.
