Wednesday's area roundup: Beverly girls lacrosse team topples Marblehead



Peabody 4, Salem 1: The Tanners improved to 4-0 after sweeping doubles as first doubles team Alex McDonough/Mike Nicoli and second doubles team Steve Goggin/Sam Gottsegan both won 6-0, 6-0. Second singles Scott Perlman (6-0, 6-3) and third singles Djordje Samardzic (6-0, 6-0) were the other Peabody victors.

Danvers 5, Gloucester 0: First singles Nick Lisichenok (6-0, 6-0), second singles Jim Cunningham (6-2, 6-3) and third singles Brian Daley (6-2, 6-2) all won for Danvers (3-1). Kevin Hodgkins/Zach Noring (6-3, 6-0) and Matt Kidney/Chris Shalkoski (6-1, 6-3) captured the doubles matches for the Falcons who are now 3-0 in the Northeastern Conference.

Marblehead 5, Winthrop 0: Senior co-captain Miles Barry won 6-0, 6-1 at first singles, junior Dimitri Vlassov took No. 2 6-0, 6-0 and junior Griffin Butterfield won at third position 6-3, 6-0 to pace the Magicians. Michael Fortse and Justin Faia won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles and Matt Jepsky and Garrett Tully won their varsity debut 7-5, 6-2 at second doubles.

St. John’s Prep 4, Xaverian 1: Nico Limacher (6-3, 6-0) and Chase Davis (6-0, 6-2) won second and third singles respectively for the Eagles (5-1) while Sean Nork/Mateo Jacome (6-3, 6-2) and Andrew Cardigan/Scott Reister (6-4, 7-5) swept the doubles matches.

Triton 4, Hamilton-Wenham 1: First doubles partners Frankie Bucco and Jack Hopkins (5-7, 6-2, 7-6, 7-1) picked up the lone win for the Generals (0-3).

Manchester Essex 4, Ipswich 1: Max Benford won at third singles (6-4, 2-6, 6-4) for Ipswich (1-3).

Masconomet 3, Lynnfield 2: Singles wins from sophomore Alex Fizz (6-0, 6-0) and senior Cam Netland (6-4, 6-1), as well as a three-set victory in second doubles from sophomore Cooper McVay and junior Mark Daniels (6-1, 4-6, 6-1) gave Masconomet its first ‘W’ in three matches this spring.



Pingree 8, Dexter 7: Senior Brandon Franco scored with just over two minutes left as Pingree (2-2) defeated the defending three-time New England champions. Junior Carter Rossano (three goals, one assist) and sophomore Sam Ober (three goals) led the offense while freshman goalie CJ White had 17 saves and the Highlander defense was excellent in front of him.

Masconomet 10, Newburyport 6: Max Craig (three goals, two assists), Cam Jung (two goals, two assists), Harry Cwik (two goals) and Tom Cashin (two goals) were the top offensive contributors for Masco (4-2) while Mitchell Godett was excellent at the faceoff X.
