---- — MARBLEHEAD — Nineteen deserving Marblehead High School student-athletes were honored and awarded $19,000 in scholarships by the Marblehead All Sports Boosters during the school’s recent graduation ceremonies.
These student-athletes were selected based on their athletic and academic accomplishments as well as their contributions to their respective teams and to their community.
As an ongoing tradition, the Boosters select one of their scholarships to be given in the name of former high school principal John Ziergiebel, representing courage, perseverance, kindness and dedication. This year it was awarded to Matthew DiCenso.
The Castner family traditionally awards two Boosters scholarship in the name of Allie Castner, representing a student who loves being part of a team, displays true sportsmanship and is a leader both on and off the field. These awards were given this year to Rebecca Unterborn and to Marilisa Goetz.
Also receiving scholarships were Tyler Bates, Joshua Beloff, Meghan Collins, Kiley Fisher, Nathaniel Fowler, Meghan Gabel, Connor Green, Allison Hanratty, John Howard, Brett LeBlanc, Trevor Jones, Ian Maag, Nicholas Perry, Tyler Phillips, Cassandra Rodgers and Harrison Rodts.
In October 2012 the Boosters Scholarship Fund reached an all-time high, thanks to the efforts of Marblehead High School student-athletes and generosity of local residents during the Scholarship Drive.
