Weekend area sports roundup: Franzese, Koopman brothers lead Headers past Swampscott icemen

Salem 2, Revere 2: Trailing by two with under four minutes to play, the Witches (1-1-2) rallied for a satisfying tie against their Northeastern Conference South rivals. Spencer Bergholtz got his team on the scoreboard with 3:41 to go after converting a pass from linemate Danny Heck. Then, with Salem on the power play, senior captain Jake Batista fed Matt Jalbert for the game-tying strike with just 80 seconds remaining.

Brett Harring had another big game in goal for Salem as the junior captain turned aside 23 shots.

Masconomet 4, Methuen 1: Senior forward Trevor Surette scored a goal and added an assist as the visiting Chieftains (1-1-2) earned their first win of the season. Fellow senior Anthony Anzalone scored what proved to be the game-winning goal late in the second period, with sophomore Mike Castro and senior captain Alec DiGiorgio also tallying. Captain Matt Cardillo stopped 26 shots in goal as Masconomet blocked 11 shots in front of him.

St. Peter Marian 3, Bishop Fenwick 0: The Crusaders (1-4) couldn’t get on the scoresheet at home, dropping their fourth straight contest.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Beverly 5, Everett 1: Junior winger Nicole Woods factored in all five tallies with two goals and three assists as the Panthers (3-0) remained unbeaten. Livvy Konaxis and Anna O’Neill each had a goal and an assist and Anna Hayden also scored for Beverly while Ami Thompson earned the victory in net.

Marblehead 5, Shawsheen 3: The Lady Headers scored five times in the third period to turn in a 2-0 deficit into a convincing win. Brittany Lydon had a pair of goals, Rachel McKay had a goal and an assist, Halle McKay doled out three helpers and Abby Dimare netted the winner 12 seconds after Meg Gray tied it up. Ally Hopkins made 28 saves for Marblehead (3-1).

Peabody 6, Bishop Fenwick 3: Peabody’s Coutrney Smith scored three goals and three assists as the Tanners got their first victory of the season yesterday. The Crusaders, which drop to 0-5, saw goals from Hannah Dragonas, Molly Reardon and Emily Galligan. Meghan Woodworth made 25 saves in net for Fenwick.

BOYS BASKETBALL

St. John’s Prep 64, Charlestown 50: The Eagles continue their win streak and move to 5-0 on the season. Tyler Dooley had 18 points and six assists, while Drex Costello added 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. The Prep had a 33-26 lead at the half and was able to maintain the lead down the stretch. Max Burt finished with 13, while Ben Judson chipped in with 10 points.
