Area roundup: Masco, Fenwick set to square off in tournament final

BOYS BASKETBALL

Ipswich 45, West Bridgewater 38: Matt Jaeger scored a season-high 16 points and made some clutch plays down the stretch to help the Tigers (1-3) win their first game of the season. Erik Fyrer also scored 12 points before fouling out with just over a minute to play.

Danvers 71, Billerica 42: The Falcons started fast, outscoring Billerica 21-2 in the first quarter, and pulled away in the second half to move to 4-0. Nick McKenna scored 19 points and Nick Bates added 19 points and 12 rebounds. Senior point guard Eric Martin contributed 11 points, seven assists, and six steals.

Peabody 61, North Shore Tech 43: The Tanners got great balance while recording their first win of the season. Ben Martinez had 15 points and seven rebounds, Steve Leavitt scored 12 points, grabbed five boards, and came up with six steals, and Matt Correale added 14 points. Sophomores Mike Raymond, Bobby Sullivan, and David Hoar got called up from the junior varsity team and combined for 11 points and 13 rebounds for Peabody (1-4).

Jordan Mendez scored all 17 of his points in the first half for North Shore Tech (0-5).

Beverly 81, Masconomet 58: Junior Nick Cross scored 13 points and pulled down six rebounds to lead a balanced Beverly attack in their holiday tournament. Josh Cairns (12), Cam Rogers (12), and Chris Sinclair (11) also hit double figures for the Panthers, who will take on Boston Latin in the final tonight (7:30 p.m.).

Freshmen Sam Traicoff and Ryan Coughlin recorded their first varsity points for Beverly.

Marblehead 50, Bedford 48: The Magicians move to 2-2 as Alex Conn led all scorers with 11 points to go along with seven rebounds. Matt Millet added 10 points and fives assists, while sophomore Angel Perez finished with 12 rebounds.

BOYS HOCKEY

Bishop Fenwick 4, Lynnfield 0: Pat O’Leary had a 12 save shutout as Fenwick (2-5) snapped a five game skid in the Kasabuski Christmas Tournament. Nick Finan had two goals and an assist, including the game winner, for the Crusaders while Mike Napolitano also scored with one assist and Drew Thibodeau had a goal and two helpers. P.J. Usalis also had two assists.
