Area roundup: Peabody girls hockey rallies for clutch win


nORTH sHORE tECH/eSSEX aGGIE 69, cHELSEA 16: The Bulldogs won seven events to pull away from Chelsea. Josh Fales and Doug Wilson tied for first in hurdles (8.2), while Brendan Hurley (300, 43.4), Eric Comeau (600, 1:52.9), Mike Reynolds (1,000, 3:19.4), Mike Tilton (mile, 5:32.6), Phil Simonton (2-mile, 11:17), and Anthony Sabbio (shot put, 35-10) also won events for North Shore (2-1).

mASCO SPLITS: The Chieftains (4-1) fell to Newburyport 49-37, but defeated Triton 67-19 in yesterday’s tri-meet. Garrett Roberts (hurdles), Cam Hebert (300), Harry Kent (mile), Marco Caserta (2 mile), Alex Gikas (600), Jake Morman (1000) ad Josh Griffith (shot) all had wins for Masco.


Masconomet shines: Sophomore Tyler Brown finished in the top 10 while Nolan Houston and Nathaniel Houston also had good runs as Masconomet (4-1) toppled Haverhill, but lost to a very deep St. John’s Prep squad. Junior captain Jay Kraunelis also skied well and freshman Mitchell Godett finished in the top 15.

The Chieftains girls beat Austin Prep and lost a narrow decision to North Andover (72.5-62.5). Freshman Heather Gaskell posted the fastest Masco time of the season and finished seventh against the Knights, while senior captains Nichol Brown and London Judge both finished in the top 12.


Masconomet 131.95, Gloucester 120.65: Jess DeMarco and Mina Shernan took the top two spots in all-around to pace the Chieftains in their win. DeMarco, who was first in all-around with a 35.7, won beam and floor and took second on vault and bars. Shernan posted a 34.7 all-around with wins on vault and bars, a second on beam, and a third on floor.

Hannah Bradshaw also performed well on floor for Masco (4-0), taking fourth with an 8.4.


Beverly 30, Marblehead/Swampscott 12: It was Senior Night for Beverly (11-5) — and the Panther elders didn’t disappoint. Seniors Brendan McGee (170 lbs.), Peter Reusch (182) and Brian Perry (220) all won their matches while freshmen Ahmad Al Sharafi (106) and Mike Cirelli (113) also scored big wins.
