Bavaro, Mucciarone honored as Moynihan Lumber Student-Athletes of the Month for December

For their excellence both in the classroom and on the playing fields, St. John’s Prep star Lucas Bavaro and St. Mary’s of Lynn standout Jennie Mucciarone have been selected as the Moynihan Lumber Student-Athletes of the Month for December.

A football star for the Eagles, Bavaro helped lead his team to the Catholic Conference championship and the Division 1 state title this past fall, the school’s first in 15 years. He was the leader of a Prep defense that was particularly stingy down the season’s homestretch and into the playoffs; Bavaro had 23 tackles (including three for losses) and an interception in the final month of the season. In the Prep’s Super Bowl triumph over Brockton, he blocked a punt and forced a fumble. Bavaro has also been recognized in the Brother Benjamin Chapter of the National Honor Society at St. John’s Prep, as well as the World Language National Honor Society. A consistent Honors student throughout high school, Bavaro — who holds a 4.21 grade-point average and scored 1,830 on his SATs — will continue his education and play football at Dartmouth College.

Macciarone is a soccer and basketball superstar at St. Mary’s. She was an Eastern Mass. Division 3 First Team all-star selection on the pitch last fall as well as being a Catholic Central League First Team all-star. On the basketball court, Macciarone was among the state’s top 10 scorers as a sophomore last winter at 19.7 points per game and was a CCL First Team all-star on the hardcourt as well. A junior who is ranked fifth in her class of 108 students, Macciarone sports a fine 3.92 grade-point average and has made the Principal’s List all nine quarters she has attended St. Mary’s. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.
