Danvers 7, Saugus 0: Senior left wing A.J. Couto had a hat trick, including a shorthanded goal, and three of his teammates — juniors John Milne and Alec Littlefield, as well as sophomore Chris Weimert — scored the first goals of their varsity careers as the Falcons (9-4-3) qualified for the state tournament for the 24th time in the last 25 seasons. Junior wing Matt Flynn also had a shorthanded goal in the victory while sophomore Alex Taylor (10 saves) didn’t allow anything past him in recording his third shutout of the winter.
ST. JOHN’S PREP 4, ARLINGTON CATHOLIC 0: Captain Brian Pinho had a goal and an assist as the Eagles (14-2) picked up their third shutout of the season and won their ninth straight overall. James Currier and Jack McCarthy had power play goals and Paul Crehan added a 5-on-5 tally for St. John’s Prep, while Billy Price had 23 saves in a little over 40 minutes of work. Anthony Selvitella preserved the shutout, making four saves.
Masconomet 4, Amesbury 0: The Chieftains had three players score their first varsity goal and Matt Cardillo made 20 stops to earn the shutout. Jake Esposito, Derrick Wilson and Ryan Duval each lit the lamp for the first time in their careers, and Jared Brann also scored for Masco (7-8-1), which needs five points in its final four games to qualify for the postseason.
Duval also had an assist, and Masco coach Andrew Jackson praised the play of his gray line — Trevor Surrette, Mike Castro and Edison Forbes.
archbishop williams 8, bishop fenwick 2: Drew Thibodeau scored his third goal and defenseman P.J. Usalis added his first marker of the season, but Fenwick (3-14) was done in my four first period goals by the hosts. Mike Napolitano, Nick Coccoluto and Matt Townsend had assists for the Crusaders while goaltenders Billy Noftle (16 saves) and Mitch Uretsky (8 saves) both played well in relief roles.
