Swampscott to meet Westfield in Division 3 state hockey final Sunday

The Swampscott High hockey team now knows its opponent for Sunday’s Division 3 state championship game at the TD Garden in Boston.

The Westfield High Bombers earned the right to face the Big Blue after toppling Wachusett, 6-4, in a state semifinal last night at the Wallace Civic Center in Fitchburg. The Western Mass. champions improved to 18-3-2 with the victory.

Swampscott (19-5) will be looking for the school’s first hockey championship on Sunday (3:30 p.m.). Westfield won Division 3 state titles in 2003 and 2008 and has lost in the final three times, most recently in 2011 to Marblehead.
