---- — Fresh off a 13-0 Super Bowl winning season, Beverly football head coach Dan Bauer will lead the North squad in the 35th Annual Shriner’s High School Football Classic in June.
The game will be played on June 22 at Bentley College and features the top senior high school football players from all over Eastern Mass.
Bauer will have the services of two of his best seniors from the unbeaten Panthers in lineman Mike Dooling and running back Brendan Flaherty, who was an Mass. High School Football Coaches Association All-State Super 26 selection and also broke Beverly’s all-time scoring record.
Flaherty is playing at Holy Cross next season.
Fellow Northeastern Conference all-stars Ty Bates and Ian Maag will also represent the North in the Shriner’s Classic. Bates was one of the best linebackers on the North Shore this past fall and Maag threw for 1,500 yards and accounted for 22 touchdowns (14 passing, eight rushing).
Division 1 Super Bowl champion St. John’s Prep will have three players suiting up for the North all-stars. Gatorade Massachusetts Player of the Year Alex Moore, a Penn commit from Boxford, earned a spot in the game after scoring 18 total touchdowns. Fearsome linebacker Lucas Bavaro, who will continue his career at Dartmouth College next year, will follow in the footsteps of his father, Mark, by playing in the game. The former All-Pro tight end of the New York Giants played in the Shriner’s Classic out of Danvers High in 1981.
Center and Catholic Conference all-star James Fagan, who will play at Bates next year, joins his fellow Eagles on the Shinrer’s North squad.
NEC/CAL Tier 1 champion Masconomet also has two players suiting up for Bauer and the North. Tier 1 MVP and Super 26 pick Dylan Mann, who will play Bowdoin, earned a selection, as did two-way line standout Sean Antonuccio, who is slated to play at Bates.
The Shriner’s Classic is sponsored by Aleppo Shriners and the MSHFCA and raises money for Shiner’s hospitals of Boston, one of the world’s leading centers for treatment of children with burns.
