---- — TOPSFIELD — The Masconomet Regional football team is headed to the state playoffs for the first time in three seasons later this month. The Chieftains clinched their sixth league title in the last 10 years with a 42-0 win over Revere last weekend and will be moving on to face Everett in the Division 1A playoffs.
There are also many former Chieftains who have continued their football careers in college and who have performed extremely well this season. They include:
Ted Reed, a 2008 Masco graduate and three-year letter-winner at Dartmouth, where he is on the top linemen for the Big Green.
Dom Bavaro, another 2008 grad who is a receiver at Curry College.
Clay Cleveland, who graduated from Masco in 2009, is the starting fullback for the Syracuse Orange and the player his team turns to in short yardage situations. He is a two-year letter-winner there.
Kevin Anderson has been a four-year starter at defensive back for Stonehill College; the 2009 Masco graduate leads his college club kick returns and yardage while picking off three passes. He was also the Defensive Player of the Week on NCAA.com in late September.
Michael Hutchinson, another 2009 Masco graduate, is a defensive lineman for the United States Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point).
Chris Splinter, the record setting 2010 grad who leads Harvard University with five interceptions while starting at defensive back.
Evan Bunker, another from the Class of 2010 who is already the leading rusher in Trinity history as a junior and led his team to a NESCAC championship this fall. He has been an All-Conference selection all three years of college.
George Alexandrou, a 2010 grad who is a starting linebacker and one of the leading tacklers at Curry College.
Yoshio Yabe, who also graduated in 2010 and is a lineman at Stonehill.
Brodie Green finished up at Masco in 2011 and is now a receiver at WPI.
Tom Chub, a fellow 2011 graduate now on the defensive line at WPI.
James Aloisio, another 2011 Masco grad who is heading up the offensive line at UMass Dartmouth.
Nathan Silveria graduated from Masconomet this past spring and is now a wide receiver for the bowl-bound Endicott College Gulls.
Eric Anastasio also graduated in 2012 and is a kicker at Fitchburg State.
In addition, Eric Bucker (Masconomet Class of 2007) was the Offensive Player of the Year in the NESCAC for Amherst College in 2011 and captained the Lord Jeffs; he’s now on the Masconomet coaching staff.
