COLLEGE BASEBALL
The Salem State baseball team held off a late charge by visiting Brandeis yesterday and came away with an 8-5 victory.
Matt Kerr went seven strong innings for Salem State (12-5), allowing just one unearned run while holding the Judges to two hits and striking out seven batters.
Lead-off man Kevin Salines set the table for the Viking offense with two hits, two RBI and a run scored. Chris Cocci, Matt Burgess and Nick Conti each also had two hits and an RBI while Ryan Beliveau, Kyle McElroy, Brett Cahill and Ethan Trowt provided hits.
The Vikings built an 8-1 lead before Brandeis tacked on four in the top of the ninth.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Scots Lose Two: Gordon lost both ends of a double-header against UMaine-Farmington yesterday, falling 13-0 and 15-1. Kerry McPartlan scored the lone run for Gordon (4-8) and also had both her team's hits in the opening game.
