Tuesday's area roundup: Danvers girls earn first win of the season

Danvers 5, Winthrop 0: Three different players scored their first varsity goals as the Falcons (1-2) earned their first win of 2013. Sophomore Nicole White had two goals and one assist to start her varsity scoring while sophomore Olivia Davis and freshman Morgan Mscisz also found the net for the first time.Senior captain Kylie Plaza had a goal as well and junior Shannon Pohle picked up three assists.“I feel like this is a deep team and to see young girls step up and play a major role in a win hopefully bodes well for us,” said coach Jim Hinchion, whose club lost to state powers Beverly and Andover to open the season. “We were a little uncomfortable at 0-2.”Senior goalie Leah Ciampa picked up the shutout and Meaghan McCarriston had one helper.

Peabody 7, Lynn English 0: Captain Madison Doherty scored twice and dished out two assists as the Tanners (2-1) rolled to their second straight win. Caroline Colbert had a goal and an assist, as did Mia Lomasney, and Erika Nelson, Amy Drover, Katrina Silva and Brianna Gaynor each had one goal. Alex Lomasney, Aly Demoe and Katherine Scacchi keyed the shutout on defense.

Waring 7, Chapel Chauncy 0: Merilyn Hinrichs had a goal and an assist and eighth grader Holland Stam made one save to earn her first varsity shutout as Waring moved to 2-0.

Swampscott 4, Gloucester 0: The Big Blue got goals from Emma Hunt, Shauna King, Megan Hartman and Leah Dowley to improve to 2-1-1. Sam Rizzo made three saves for Swampscott.

North Shore Tech/Essex Aggie 7, PMA 0: Freshman Ella Speiff and juniors Keely Gallagher and Brooke Hall each had two goals as the Bulldogs improved to 3-0. Speiff’s goals were the first two of her career. Dazzlime Vega also scored for North Shore while sophomore Stefany Campbell and junior Ava Swiniarski played well defensively.
