Tuesday's area roundup: Beverly boys edge Danvers in cross country thriller


Governor’s Academy 3, Pingree 0: Middle hitter Hanna Stasiuk had five kills and three blocks for Pingree, which fell 25-9, 25-18 and 25-16. Haley Sabino had a strong all-around match with three assists, four digs and two blocks.


Manchester Essex 5, North Reading 0: Brittany Smith and Anna Heffernan had two goals each and Taylor Meek scored once as the Hornets (6-0-1) remained unbeaten on the season.

Hamilton-Wenham 1, Georgetown 0: Senior captain Phoebe MacCurrach scored the winning goal late in the first half and the Generals (3-3-1) held on for a Cape Ann League win. Senior goalie Maddie Werner played well to keep the shutout and senior Sophia Zizza also had a strong game.

Ipswich 1, Newburyport 0: The Tigers (5-1) got the goal they needed with just under five minutes left in regulation as Carolyn Lynch found the back of the net with an assist from Nikki Pignone. The Tigers didn’t allow a shot on goal in game or a Newburyport corner try.


St. John’s Prep 228, BC High 246: Sophomores James Turner (3-under 33) and Stephen Dilisio (1-under 35) both came in under par at Salem Country Club to lead the Eagles (6-1, 3-0) to a Catholic Conference win. Freshman Mark Turner carded a 39 for the Prep as well.

Masconomet 140, Hamilton-Wenham 125: George May earned 28 points as the Chieftains improve to 4-3 overall. Mike Manni finished with 27 points and Christian Cardarelli added 23 points. The Generals (3-5) were led by Mike Gillis and Dillon Duran, both with 25 points, as well as Kevin Heppna who had 22 points.

Winthrop 51, Swampscott 21: Griffin Hunt (6-3) was the lone winner for the Big Blue (4-5).

Danvers 43, Gloucester 29: Mike Plansky, Wes Milbury, Alex Taylor, Matt Alexander and TIm Unczur all were victorious for the Falcons (2-5-1).

Peabody 52 1/2, Lynn English 19 1/2: The Tanners (5-3-1) received wins from all eight of their golfers: Nolan Franny, Matt Correale, Steve Ferrante, Pat McCarthy, Ted Izzo, Steve Goggin, Blake Ward and Chris Ciampa.
