Wednesday's area roundup; Buonopane, Masco golf edge North Reading


Newburyport 4, Ipswich 0: Junior midfielder Joanna Perry stood out for the Tigers in defeat. Ipswich dropped to 3-2-2.


Bishop Fenwick 2, Martha’s Vineyard 0: The Crusaders (6-2) scored a goal in each half to win on the road. Erinn Johnson had a goal and an assist and Erin Clancy scored once while Maura Benson and Victoria Hernandez played well on defense in the shutout effort.

Swampscott 4, Revere 1: Tori Thistle scored one goal and assisted another as the Big Blue improved to 4-2-1. Victoria Himaras, Aimee Aylward and Christina King also scored goals while Annie Kane added an assist. Angela Videtta played well defensively for Swampscott.

Dana Hall 1, Pingree 0: The Highlanders put up a great fight in the second half, but couldn’t record the equalizer. Anna Kaneb, Jill Witwicki and Cassidy Assad stood out on defense for Pingree (3-3).

Danvers 2, Marblehead 1: Katherine Leonard tallied both goals for the Falcons (5-2-1), on assists from Rachel Trocci and Nicole Kamens. Catie Lamoly was strong on offense, as was Raquel Leslie in the back field.

Hannah Fobert scored for Marblehead (5-2) in the second half, while Grace Perry and Abby Damare both had solid games in the midfield.


North Shore Tech/Essex Aggie 21, Northeast 43: The Bulldogs took four of the top five spots, moving to 3-0 in the process. Alexa Marquis won the race with teammates Jessie O’Neill, Hannah Marshall and Jessica Steffanli grabbing the third through fifth spots.

Masco sweeps: The Chieftains defeated Manchester Essex, 26-29, and Pentucket, 19-40, to boost their record to 5-1. Megan Collins took second in 19:42 and Kathleen Gillespie was third in 20:24 for Masco. Gwen Ellis (7th), Kim Cosgrove (8th) and Abby Greenslade (10th) crossed the finish line in a tight pack to help the Chieftains pull away.

Hamilton-Wenham takes two: Hamilton-Wenham had three of the top five finishers in a tri-meet to get the better of Triton (19-42) and North Reading (20-43). Emily Horgan finished second in 20:30 and Jeanine Zheng was right behind her for third place. Olivia Horgan placed fourth. Meghan Stone, Amanda Burnett, Mazey Loomis and Meg McWhirter placed in the 7-10 spots for the Generals (6-0).
