Tuesday's area roundup: Last minute goal helps Danvers boys get win

Salem 3, Hamilton-Wenham 0: The Witches (7-5) rolled 25-18, 25-20, 25-17 as Codey Homan had nine kills along with four digs and an ace, and Hannah Mularkey added nine kills of her own to go with seven digs, three aces and a block. Defensively, libero Kayti Lefrancois picked up eight digs and 11 service points.

Mystic Valley 3, North Shore Tech 0: The Bulldogs fell 25-12, 25-7 and 25-7.

FIELD HOCKEY

Acton-Boxboro 7, Bishop Fenwick 0: The Crusaders ran into a buzzsaw in the defending Division 1 state champions. Kathleen Moran, Victoria Hernandez, Jackie Hart and goalie Bridgette Townsend (19 saves) played well for the Crusaders (6-3).

Peabody 5, Salem 0: Diane Migneault scored two goals and assisted on another to help the Tanners handle Salem. Emily Bettencourt, Dayna Collins and Evangeline Anderle also scored for Peabody while Sarah Blanchette had an assist and played well overall. The Tanners moved to 3-5.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Marblehead 22, Danvers 35: Overall race winner Chris Rodts (16:27) helped the Magicians remain unbeaten at 4-0. Conrad Rosseau was third for Marblehead and the Black-and-Red then took fifth-through-seventh with Adam Linsky (17:15), Chris Wigglesworth (17:25) and Hillman Hollister (17:30) to seal the meet.

Danvers’ James Bailey finished second in 16:50 and Kevin Hebert was fourth with a time of 17:14. Ryan Heber also finished in the top 10.

Beverly 15, Salem 49: Matt Heckman, Michael Scott, Brian McPherson, Zach Bauer and Campbell Wood crossed the line together to give the Panthers the victory. Charlie Boschen was also sixth for Beverly (4-1).

Peabody 20, Lynn English 35: Anthony Pizzo was Peabody’s top finisher, coming in first overall at 16:33. Joshua Rizzo (16:55) was third and Manny Viera (16:57) finished fourth for the Tanners (4-0)

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Beverly 15, Salem 50: The Panthers took the top five spots to run away from Salem. Nora Monahan, Sheehan Gotsch, Danielle Bertaux, Sarah Welch, and Lexi Sutyak were the top five finishers for Beverly (5-0).

Marblehead 22, Danvers 37: The Magicians grabbed the second through fifth spots to move to 3-0. Lily Roberts (19:16) and Janaya Randall (19:34) each finished in under 20 minutes, while Sarah Oliver (20:02) and Paige Ferrucci (20:18) also ran well for Marblehead.
