Wednesday's area roundup: Pingree girls top defending EIL champs


Beverly 3, Hamilton-Wenham 1: The Panthers came out on top 25-21, 22-25, 25-22, 25-21. Bridget Keaton led Beverly with nine aces while Kristen Abbondanza (eight kills) and Olivia George had five each and Katherine Brown had six blocks and eight aces.The Generals were led by strong serving from Maddie O’Connor and Leah Walsh.

Milton Academy 3, Pingree 0: Milton Academy won 25-16, 25-17, 25-17. Pingree (2-5) got solid play from Haley Sabino and Hanna Stasiuk.


Endicott 9, Salve Regina 0: Chrissy Martel, Amy Heacox, Natalie Egbert, Suzie Newman, Mackenzie Rhodes and Brittany Potter took all six singles points as Endicott improved to 8-3 and 6-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The six Gulls also teamed to win all three doubles matches.

Plymouth State 5, Salem State 4: Lauren Woods and Hillary Gutafson teamed to win a doubles match and each captured a single match, but the Vikings (2-5) were edged by PSU.

Gordon 9, WNEC 0: The Fighting Scots (8-5) clinched a Commonwealth Coast Conference playoff berth with a Senior Day clean sweep. Caroline Hall, Tawnie Yeaw, Lily Drescher, Cindi Flynn, Jessie Dupre and Abby Caron picked up singles points for Gordon.


Salve Regina 1, Endicott 0: Senior goalie Lizetta Solarik stopped six of seven shots, but Salve managed to score the game’s only goal as the Gulls fell to 5-6.

Wellesley 1, Gordon 0: The 16th ranked Blue scored early in the second half and held on to top Gordon (8-3). Anna Bury stopped 11 shots in the Gordon cage.


Keene St. 9, Salem State 3: Samir Zepaj, Matt Figueiredo and Costa Hatziiannou had the goals for Salem State (1-7), which fell victim to an offensive onslaught in the Granite State as the Owls put 34 shots on goal.
