The Hamilton-Wenham girls soccer team recorded its eighth shutout of the season after defeating Ipswich 2-0 at home yesterday.
Both goals were scored by senior forward Alana Vecchiarello, one in each half.
”We knew needed to stop Alana,” said Ipswich head coach Nancy Waddell whose team moves to 5-3-4 overall. “She is a true goal scorer. You get her in front of the net and she puts the ball in.”
Emily Brengle had the task of trying to stop Vecchiarello and was able to limit the number of scoring chances the Generals had.
The H-W defense did a good job at keeping the ball out of their zone, but goalie Taylor Morong came up with some big saves when she needed too post the shutout
Masconomet 5, Manchester Essex 0: Lexi Sheehan led the Chieftains (7-2-1) with two goals and an assist, while Kaylee White and Claudia Marsh each finished with a goal and an assist. Dominque Anderson and Olivia Buonopane recorded a marker a piece and Nancy Palermo and Lexi Nason combined for the shutout victory.
Bishop Fenwick 3, Austin Prep 0: Rose Fantozzi recorded two goals as the Crusaders move to 6-3-3 overall. Colleen Corcoran had the other score for Fenwick, while Merry Harrington got the shutout in goal.
Marblehead 3, Lynn Classical 1: Mia Bongiornio, Sarah Cullen, and Rebecca Unterborn each scored goals to help the Magicians move to 6-2-2. Cassie Rodgers stood out in net, stopping 22 shots, while Abby Leblanc added an assist for Marblehead.
Notre Dame 3, North Shore Tech 0: Despite the loss, freshman goalie Sarah Cantwell and defenders Lindsay McGovern, Keely Gallagher, and Jennifer Lutes played well. The Bulldogs slipped to 5-7-1.
St. Mary’s 2, Cardinal Spelman 0: Salem’s Alexander Alleyne powered the Spartans (8-2-3) with both goals in the shutout victory.
Ipswich 1, Hamilton-Wenham 1: Zach Eliopolous had the tying for the Tigers in yesterday’s Cape Ann League battle.
