Area roundup: Generals record eighth shutout with win over Ipswich

Bishop Fenwick 1, Austin Prep 0: Fenwick (4-6-3) won its third straight game thanks to an unassisted goal by Tyler Fouhey. Ryan Trott also played outstanding in net for the Crusaders.

VOLLEYBALL

Salem 3, Lynn Classical 0: Kylie Thesz recorded four kills and three blocks as the Witches swept Classical (25-16, 25-16, 28-26). Middle hitter Kayla Pelletier finished with six kills and Kayti LaFrancois had nine digs.

Peabody 3, Beverly 0: The Tanners swept the Panthers in three straight matches yesterday, 25-17, 30-28, 25-20, to improve to 9-1. Carolyn Scacchi had 14 kills and 15 digs, Mikayla Wallace added five kills and four aces, and Kim Sousa contributed four kills and three aces.

Bishop Fenwick 3, Cardinal Spellman 0: The Crusaders qualified for the state tournament after winning 25-14, 25-2, 25-19. Kate Lipka (17 kills) and Gianna Pizzano (9 kills) played well for Fenwick (10-3), and Jen Crovo dominated the second set with 20 consecutive service points.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Newburyport 24, Masconomet 32: Sophomore Meghan Collins won the race in 19:45 but Newburyport took the next three spots to secure the meet victory. Kathleen Gillespie was fifth (20:17), Kim Cosgrove was seventh (20:38), Erin Johnson ran 20:43 and Mila Zernich finished in 21:04 for the Chieftains (4-2).

Bishop Fenwick sweeps: The Crusaders (5-1) defeated Archbishop Williams (23-33) and Marion (22-37) in yesterday’s tri-meet. Arianna Meida finished second overall (19:18), Hannah Smith came in fourth (21:30) and Abby Smith placed seventh (23:25).

Ipswich 21, North Reading 37: Sarah Keiran set a course record (her second this year) with a time of 16:54, to capture first place overall for the Tigers. Tina Keiran finished third overall (17:32), while Michela Hedderman placed fourth (19:41).

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Bishop Fenwick wins tri-meet: Brian Mendes placed second overall with a time of 16:49 to guide the Crusaders past Archbishop Williams (26-45) and Marion (19-36). Dan Deschanes finished third (17:36) and Nick Tambini captured seventh (18:55) for Fenwick (6-0).

Ipswich 25, North Reading 31: Captain Michael Riddle finished first for Ipswich and second overall with a time of 15:50 to move the Tigers to 4-4 in the CAL. Riddle was followed by captain Zach Angell (4th, 16:53) and Luke Sirois (5th, 17:00).
