Weekend area roundup: Walker leads Endicott past CCC foe Eastern Nazarene

Endicott 78, Eastern Nazarene 77: Freshman guard Kamahl Walker netted a team-high 16 points along with four assists and two steals to power the Gulls to their first Commonwealth Coast Conference victory of the season.

Classmate Daquan Sampson earned a double-double for Endicott (5-2) with 10 points and 15 rebounds while Taylor Rioux added 12 points off the bench.

Babson 101, Salem state 87: The Vikings evened their record at 4-4 after yesterday’s 5th Annual New England Big 4 Challenge championship game loss. Bryan Ortiz had a team-high 27 points to go along with four assists, Andrew White netted 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the tournament loss.

Salem State, which has won three of its last five games, earned a spot in the championship round after Saturday’s 81-78 victory over host Tufts. Ortiz had another impressive performance, scoring 24 points. Robert Morin added 15 points and seven rebounds off the bench while Hamed Akanni, Nicholas Grassa and Jon Perez all finished with 11 points.

Nichols 78, Gordon 72: Junior Hans Miersma recorded a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds to go along with three blocks and three steals for the Scots (2-5). Taylor Bajema (14 points), Park Thomas (14 points) and Alex Carnes (12 points, 9 rebounds) all hit double figures in the loss.

WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Endicott 74, Eastern Nazarene 66: Sophomore Kelsey Cuddy recorded a game-high 19 points while junior Kayleen Whall added 17 points and seven rebounds off the bench as the Gulls improved to 5-1 overall. Julie Manning dropped in 12 points and Samantha Crough finished with seven points and eight rebounds.

Nichols 60, gordon 39: Brooke Kratche had a team-high 17 points and eight rebounds as the Scots fell to 2-4. Mariel Barner and Fredi Neilsen each contributed five points in the setback.

MEN’S COLLEGE HOCKEY

Salem State 6, Worcester State 1: Freshmen Alex Minter (Peabody) and John Needham each scored twice and added assists as the Vikings earned their third consecutive win Saturday. Goaltender Ryan Sutliffe made 12 saves to earn the win for Salem State while Kyle Phelan and Tanner Fahlstedt also contributed a goal apiece.
