Area roundup: Gordon softball wins conference opener

Gordon Sweeps Wentworth: Skylar Bareford did it all for the Scots, toeing the rubber and striking out eight in a 5-3 win and then going 4-for-4 with three RBI in a 9-3 win as Gordon (4-6) took both ends of a doubleheader from Wentworth. Kelly Beardslee fanned seven and earned Gordon’s other win while Kara Pepper drove in three runs. Ipswich native Liz Glavin had a pair of hits for Wentworth.

Worcester St. 4, Endicott 1: In the first game at the renovated North Field, visiting Worcester scored three times in the top of the ninth to spoil Endicott’s home opener. Mike Nich threw 8 1/3 innings for the Gulls (5-4), fanning five and scattering six hits. Harry Oringer went 2-for-4 at the dish and Robbie Goldstick drove in Ralph Fidaleo for EC’s only run.

Fitchburg state 11, Gordon 1: The Scots gave up nine runs between the fifth, sixth and seventh innings as the hosts built an insurmountable lead. Alex Potocki went 2-for-4 and scored Gordon’s run. driven in by Alex German.
