Tigers steal big win over Lynnfield
BASEBALL
The Ipswich baseball team took another step toward a coveted state tournament berth yesterday, and they did in an unusual fashion.
Jimmy Cadogan came home on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh to lift the host Tigers (8-8) to a 6-5 walk-off win over Lynnfield.
Cadogan scored three of Ipswich's six runs on the afternoon while talented sophomore Will Corkum earned the win. He tossed three scoreless innings of relief to hold off the Pioneers.
North Reading 2, Hamilton-Wenham 0
Matt Greeke scattered six hits and only one of North Reading's two runs was earned, but the Generals (6-9) couldn't muster enough offense to make a difference. Pat Twomey and Dan Mulley had H-W's two hits while Greeke fanned eight.
Whittier 3, North Shore Tech 2
Joel D'Ambrosio pitched a solid game but some early base running errors cost North Shore Tech (12-3) the game as they surrendered the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Masconomet 9, Wilmington 0
Andy Roach picked up the win for the Chieftains (13-3) surrendering just two hits and improving to 6-0 on the season. Chris Splinter was the offensive standout for Masconomet going 3-for-3 with three RBI.
Pingree 2, Concord Academy 0
Eric Stevens picked up the win surrendering no earned runs on two hits in four innings of work. Zach Guarino led the Highlanders (14-5) going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
BOYS LACROSSE
Salem 17, Saugus 7
Frank Lento scored six goals, including the 100th of his career, and added three assists as the Witches rolled to victory. Mike Doherty pitched in with four goals and five assists, while Tyler Daniels, Nate Staples and Peter Cavallaro each had two goals.
Matt Keiler and Brian Duhaime played well for Salem (11-5).
Lexington Christian 13, Waring 5
Nate Dimauro led Waring with two goals while Tim Allen made seven saves.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Masconomet 21, Pentucket 11
Brittany Fraser and Sydney Godett led Masconomet (11-4) with five goals apiece. Hannah Weaver and Mary Guinee each recorded their first varsity goal.
North Andover 15, Hamilton-Wenham 9
Syrena Shiland, Phoebe Burr, and Hayden Stone all scored two goals for the Generals (8-6). Caity Tobyn made nine saves in her second start of the season in goal.
SOFTBALL
North Shore Tech 10, Whittier Tech 7
Katryna Smith had a mosnter game at the plate for North Shore Tech (10-2) with three hits including a homer and four RBI. Amanda Lucey picked up the win allowing two earned runs on seven hits.
Saugus 3, Swampscott 2
Marissa Gambale led the Big Blue (6-9) going 3-for-4 with three steals and a run scored. Monica Mosho was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Bishop Fenwick 10, Wakefield 4
Taylor Ahearn picked up the win allowing two earned runs on seven hits. Raquel Lojko led the Crusaders (7-10) going 2 for 2 with two RBI and Amy Pelletier was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Beverly 5, Revere 1
Sarah Pezzulo surrendered just one earned on four hits while striking out 10 for the Panthers (12-4) who clinched a tournament berth. Brenna Bailey was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three stolen bases while Courtney Schalifour was 1-for-3 with an RBI double.

Bishop Fenwick 163 Trinity Catholic 16
Brandon Neals was the Crusaders' (9-0) top golfer shooting a 37. Blaine Thibodeau shot a 39 and Pat Riley shot a 41.

Reloading, not rebuilding: The Beverly High girls cross country team lost an abundance of talent to graduation, but has no plans to give up its NEC title

It's going to be considerably different for the Beverly High girls cross country team this season. However, that doesn't mean the Panthers are less ambitious.

The MSO (moorestuffonline.com) web casts of high school football on the North Shore will begin the weekend of Sept. 9. The opening game of the season will pit Swampscott at Gloucester on Friday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. The following day, Sept. 11, MSO will do the Concord-Carlisle at Beverly game at 1 p.m. -
Danvers native Hennessey cut by Buffalo Bills
The caliber of players released on the National Football League's annual cut-down day ranges from undrafted rookies to former Pro Bowlers.
Saturday, unfortunately, Danvers' Nick Hennessey was among them. -
Endicott women blank UMass Dartmouth, 2-0
WOMEN'S COLLEGE SOCCER
endicott 2, umass dartmouth 0: Sophomore Caitlin Peters was outstanding on both ends of the field, setting up two goals and helping shut down the UMass Dartmouth attack in the Green and Blue's home opnener. Alexandra Sutter scored to open the second half on a rebound off a Peters' shot and then Danvers native Kayla Corbett followed up three minutes later capitalizing on another blocked shot by Peters heading the ball into the back of the net to give the Gulls (1-0-1) the two-goal win. - Gulls hold off Van Alstyne, Framingham State in 3 OT
