Hamilton-Wenham girls topple NA, boys set three meet records

Generally speaking, it was another Hamilton-Wenhan highlight reel at the Cape Ann League Open at the Reggie Lewis Center yesterday.

The H-W girls overcame North Andover to the win CAL title with 70.5 total points and the boys set three league meet records while finishing third.

"It was obviously a great day by both our teams," said head coach Steve Sawyer. "We have a lot of quality."

The ladies won four conference titles: Alison Lanois won the 2-mile (11:37.72), Cyrena Shiland won the 1000 (3:10.94) and Natalie White took the hurdles (8.86). The Generals also won the 4x800 relay in 10:20.96.

Jackson MacDonald set his fifth school record of the season, winning the hurdles in 7.75 — an outstanding time that was also a CAL meet record. MacDonald also won the conference title in the high jump, clearing 6-3.

Junior Conor Lyons won the 1000 in a meet record time of 2:35.74 and also ran a leg of the Generals' meet record breaking 4x800 relay. The team of Lyons, Jon Hills, Sam Malabre and Chris Benevento ran 8:43.20.

Benevento also won the 2-mile title in 10:05.18, Brendan Shaughnessy was fourth overall in the hurdles and the 4x400 relay was third.

The General girls were buoyed by a second from Emily Senning in the 600 (1:43.68), a third from Taylor Smaldone in the shot (33-5), a fourth from Tyler Paredy in the hurdles (9.18) and fifth from Carey Goodrich (2-mile, 12:21.65), Meghan Goucher (3:20.15, 1000) and Camilla Worsfold (high jump, 4-8).

H-W's 4x400 girls relay set a school record with a time of 4:18.77 and finished third.

Ipswich, meanwhile, saw Molly Miller finish third in the hurdles in 9.11. Sam Brown was third in the 300 (42.99) for the Tigers.
